If you have followed Oklahoma City Public Schools Athletics over the last decade or so, you can tell a change in the district’s sports culture is taking place. New fields, updated facilities, and committed resources bring renewed hope, opportunity, and participation. Pride, excitement, and competitiveness—only recently dormant—are returning to OKCPS campuses and communities.
Across the district, kids are playing and excelling in every sport offered.
Cross-country has become cool. Track & field is running full-tilt. Basketball is soaring. Softball and baseball are home runs. Football is always a hit. Golf, tennis, and volleyball are serving up aces. Even wrestling is pulling its weight.
But no matter how much notoriety these sports bring, soccer is king in Oklahoma City Public Schools.
On February 17th, OKCPS brought World Cup energy to Speegle Stadium and Taft Stadium for the ACAC High School Boys and Girls Soccer Championship. At the end of a long, cold, hard-fought day, the Knights of NW Classen laid claim to both the boys’ and girls’ championship banners.
