At Fields & Futures, we believe every student deserves the chance to experience the joy and growth that comes with being part of a team. That’s why we’ve developed sport-specific programs like The Simon Greiner Track & Field Program, Soccer Program, Cheer Program, and most recently, the Fields & Futures Golf Program. Together with our OKCPS community partners, we are transforming the athletic landscape for Oklahoma City Public Schools, one sport at a time.

The Fields & Futures Golf Program is about more than just learning how to swing a club – it’s about building stronger and more resilient athletes, teams, coaches, and communities. By introducing students to golf and ensuring they have the resources they need to succeed, we’re creating new opportunities for kids to participate, grow, and thrive, both on and off the course.

Why Golf Matters

OKCPS Athletic Director Eddie Wright has identified golf as an essential sport to grow within OKCPS and Oklahoma City’s urban core. Golf offers unique lifelong benefits, teaches critical life skills like honesty, focus, and discipline, and opens the door to untapped scholarship and college opportunities.

Unfortunately, golf is often perceived as a sport reserved for suburban schools – one that requires private lessons, expensive equipment, and access to resources that many kids in urban areas simply don’t have. For many students in OKCPS, golf isn’t just unfamiliar—it’s an afterthought.

Fields & Futures and OKCPS Athletics are determined to change that mindset. By introducing golf to kids at younger ages and eliminating barriers to participation, we’re helping them see golf as a legitimate opportunity to join a team, build lifelong skills, and pursue higher education.

A Team Sport

The growth of the Fields & Futures Golf Program wouldn’t be possible without honest input from OKCPS coaches and the generosity and collaboration of our community partners. Together, we’re removing barriers and making golf accessible to more students than ever before.

In August 2024, we hosted a luncheon to learn more about the obstacles OKCPS golf coaches face. Their input was loud and clear. Practice times and costs are the biggest barriers to getting more kids on the golf course.

Fast forward to December 2024. Fields & Futures received a $12,500 Sports Matter Grant from DICK’s Sporting Goods Foundation. This grant has been instrumental in expanding our ability to provide the support students and coaches need.

In January 2025, we brought OKCPS golf coaches back together to show them how their input from the August luncheon impacted the support provided by the Fields & Futures Golf Program. In addition to free clinics, peer support, and ongoing education, we ensure that every golf team has equipment and tools to develop athlete interest and skills and no-cost access to courses and training facilities.

Thanks to the DICK’s Sports Matter Grant, Fields & Futures has been able to make special arrangements with Oklahoma City’s municipal golf courses—Lincoln Park, Lake Heftner, Earlywine, James E. Stewart, and Trosper—that give OKCPS golfers access to the courses and driving ranges at no charge to the golfer. OKCPS golfers also have access to the state-of-the-art golf simulators at DICK’s House of Sport so they can train year-round.

With our recent partnership with 3bird Kids Foundation Inc., OKCPS golfers now have access to 3bird’s 20-acre walking course. The 3bird facility features four greens, seven tee boxes, a golf simulator, and a SNAG driving range.

Fields & Futures partnered with the Oklahoma City Police Athletic League (OKC PAL) to create spring and fall golf leagues for OKCPS 5th and 6th graders. Next year, golf will become the first OKC PAL sport to expand to include 7th and 8th grades. This initiative introduces kids to golf at an earlier age, helping them build foundational skills while learning the values of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. OKC PAL golf represents a pivotal step in growing the game and inspiring the next generation of golfers.

Looking Down Range

Fields & Futures is committed to changing the narrative around golf in OKC’s urban core. By providing kids with the resources, equipment, and support they need, we’re shifting how they see the game of golf. It’s a chance to be part of a team, learn valuable life skills, and unlock future opportunities.

And this is just the beginning.

4 Under 4: Stars Mile Night Shines at Historic Taft Stadium

On Friday, May 30, 2025, the Fourth Annual Stars Mile Night lit up historic Taft Stadium with four sub-4-minute miles, history-making performances, and an electric community atmosphere. While the Simon Greiner Elite Mile was full of record-breaking excitement, the night was life-changing for four standout OKCPS student-athletes awarded $1,000 scholarships from the Simon Greiner Track & Field Program. Stars Mile Night and the Simon Greiner Elite Mile proved yet again that the stars in OKC don’t just shine – they fly.

Pathway Partners Clear the Path & Pave the Way

At Fields & Futures, we believe youth sports have the power to change lives, transform communities, and light the way to a brighter future. Unfortunately, financial obstacles and resource limitations deter too many kids in Oklahoma City's urban core from ever stepping onto a field, court, or track. Pathway Partners are the indispensable forces that clear the path and pave the way to equal access and opportunity.

2025 OKCPS Summer Camps: Pathways to Play for All Students

OKCPS summer camps are back! For the third straight summer, OKCPS, Fields & Futures, and a widening circle of community partners are rolling out an ambitious lineup of camps, clinics, and summer leagues for 3,000 or more OKCPS students. Building on the momentum of previous summers, this year’s programming offers more sports, more access, and more pathways than ever before.
