Youth League – Week 3

Oct 31, 2015

YOUTH LEAGUE PLAYED FIRST GAMES

The Youth League played their first games, a doubleheader, at Jefferson Middle School on October 31.  Volleyball finals were: Coolidge 2 vs. Hillcrest 0, Fillmore 2 vs Bodine 0, Hillcrest 2 vs. Rancho Village 0, Prairie Queen 2 vs Lee 0, Prairie Queen 2 vs. Rancho Village 0, Southern Hills 2 vs. Prairie Queen 1, and Wheeler 2 vs. Coolidge 0.  Football final scores were: Hillcrest 28 vs. Bodine 14, Lee 34 vs. Capitol Hill 0, Prairie Queen 20 vs. Lee 8, Prairie Queen 14 vs. Cesar Chavez 0, and Southern Hills 36 vs. Capitol Hill 8.

The schools are really showing their support for their students.  Three of the schools’ principals came out to watch the games!  We also had a number of teachers who came out to support their students.  Each week we are seeing greater attendance, with more than a hundred people attending games on Saturday. One P.E. teacher brought his wife who helped with warm-ups.  Another parent stepped up to coach. One mom’s son asked if he could get there early so he could watch the other teams…his way of “watching film” so his team would be prepared for their matchups.

We’re already selecting coaches and are actively recruiting for basketball, so we’re laying the foundation for our basketball league.

This Saturday’s game, Nov. 7, is another doubleheader.  It promises to be another great turnout!

What Drives Capitol Hill and U.S. Grant Football?

U.S. Grant and Capitol Hill may be rivals, but their football programs have more in common than their annual "Southside Bedlam" rivalry game. From 2014-2020, the OSSAA allowed both programs to play as independents so they could create their own schedules and rebuild their programs. Now playing in Class 6A, neither team has found success in district play, but they also know the scoreboard isn't the only standard of success.
