OKCPS Track & Field – Investing in Our Future

Oct 16, 2017

In the five years since Fields & Futures was created to help grow student participation in sports for Oklahoma City Public Schools, we’ve learned a lot about what inspires a kid to step forward and join a team. A caring, committed coach. A sense of belonging. The spirit of fun and adventure. Cool gear. The chance to see and learn new things. Because someone said, “We need you.” Chances are, it’s different for everyone.

When asking about the roster size and status of OKCPS track and cross country earlier this year, Shellie and Don Greiner, track enthusiasts and long time supporters of Fields & Futures, saw an under-developed sport and, more importantly, saw what it could become. Their response? “We want to help.”

With the start of the 2017-2018 school year, the Simon Greiner Track & Field Program was established and three OKCPS high school programs joined a pilot program to prove once again if we build it, they will come. Pilot schools include John Marshall High School, Northwest Classen High School and U.S. Grant High School. Under the leadership of Coach Gardner, Coach Hubbard and Coach McCoy, respectively, we look forward to seeing where things grow from here!

Hope in Action at the 2024 Kansas Relays

Thanks to the Simon Greiner Program, eight talented student-athletes and four coaches from John Marshall's 2023 5A state champion sprint relay teams were given a life-changing opportunity to compete on a national stage at one of the oldest and most prestigious track meets in the country, the 2024 Kansas Relays. The trip was more than just a reward for their accomplishments; it was a vivid demonstration of "Hope in Action."

Beyond 500: Coach Patrick Cudjoe Teaches Winning On and Off the Court

John Marshall boys basketball coach Patrick Cudjoe recently eclipsed 500 career wins, a milestone only a dozen other active coaches have reached. With deep roots in Oklahoma City Public Schools as a student, athlete, educator, coach, and parent, his impact on the OKCPS community continues to extend far beyond the court.

Cheering on Our Cheer Captain, Mandi Dotson

Mandi Dotson has been part of the Fields & Futures story since the very beginning, loyally and enthusiastically cheering for us through our biggest wins. Now, it's our turn to cheer on our resident cheer captain as she continues to grow the sport in her role as Director of Cheer & Youth Sports Advocate.
