Summer Forecast: More Opportunities, More Access, More Students Engaged

May 26, 2026

Last summer, in partnership with OKCPS Athletics, we continued building something bigger than a lineup of camps and clinics.

What started in 2023 as a renewed effort to keep OKCPS student-athletes engaged year-round has grown into a citywide movement centered around access, participation, and connection. Participation has increased each year, from 2,276 student-athletes in 2023 to 2,933 in 2024 and 3,757 in 2025. This summer, with 21 camps and clinics planned, we anticipate serving more than 4,200 student-athletes.

And this summer, the momentum continues.

Across Oklahoma City’s urban core, students will once again have opportunities to stay active, connected, and involved through a growing lineup of sports camps, clinics, and programs designed to create more pathways to participation.

Because summer matters.

When school is out, access to sports and structured activities can become limited for many students. Summer programming helps bridge that gap by giving OKCPS student-athletes opportunities to stay connected to teammates, coaches, mentors, and positive environments.

Free Soccer Camps Continue to Grow

One of the biggest highlights of the summer is Fields & Futures’ free soccer camps for OKCPS students.

With upcoming camp dates scheduled for June 23–25, July 16–17, and August 3–5, students from across the district will have opportunities to build skills, stay active, and compete – all at no cost to families.

As participation continues to grow year after year, these camps have become an important way for students to stay engaged throughout the summer while building confidence and community through sports. Interested in joining? Email [email protected].

More Than 300 Student-Athletes at OKCPS Cheer Clinic

In June, more than 300 OKCPS student-athletes will participate in the OKCPS Cheer Clinic sponsored by Fields & Futures.

Held June 15–17, the clinic gives cheerleaders from across the district the opportunity to sharpen skills, learn routines, build teamwork, and prepare for the upcoming school year.

Programs like this do more than improve performance. They help students build confidence, leadership, discipline, and school pride while staying connected during the summer months.

Oklahoma’s Fastest Night

To kick off the summer on a high note, Mile Night once again brought together runners of all ages and skill levels for one of the most exciting nights in Oklahoma running. Not to mention a new record set by Ryan Schoppe – who claimed the title of champion and Mile Night meet record holder – with a blazing time of 3:56.68.

The event reflected the same energy behind all of Fields & Futures’ summer programming: creating opportunities for our youth to compete, connect, and push themselves in positive environments.

Launching a New Softball Initiative

This summer also marks the launch of a new softball initiative focused on creating more opportunities for girls across OKCPS.

With the Women’s College World Series once again bringing excitement and attention to Oklahoma City, more young girls are becoming interested in softball – and Fields & Futures wants to help create pathways for them to participate.

In partnership with OKC Spark and the AUSL, we’re thrilled to offer a Lunch & Learn on July 7 where young student-athletes will learn, grow, and connect with professional Spark players to help grow their knowledge and love for the game. Our partnership with USA Softball will also provide more opportunities this summer and beyond for young girls to get into the game.

From programming and access to long-term development opportunities, the goal is simple: make it easier for girls to get plugged into the sport.

Help Support Girls Softball in OKCPS

As this initiative grows, Fields & Futures is looking for community partners and sponsors who want to invest in the future of girls athletics across Oklahoma City.

Support can help provide equipment, programming opportunities, coaching resources, and expanded access for OKCPS student-athletes. Email [email protected] to learn more.

More Than Summer Sports

At Fields & Futures, summer programming is about more than keeping students busy. It’s about creating opportunities for students to stay connected, stay active, and stay engaged during a critical time of year.

Sports create belonging. They create structure, relationships, confidence, and consistency. And as participation continues to grow across OKCPS, so does the impact.

Because when more students have access to sports, more students have access to the opportunities that come with them.
