Spring sports have officially sprung in Oklahoma City Public Schools! From elementary schoolers just learning the basics to high school athletes sharpening their skills, this is the busiest sports season of the year for the district and Fields & Futures. During the 2023-2024 school year, 4,176 OKCPS students from third grade through high school played spring sports. And that number is certain to be even higher this year.

Alongside OKCPS Athletics, the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City, the Oklahoma City Police Athletic League (OKCPAL), and other community partners, we’re proud to provide vital support and resources to thousands of spring athletes and coaches. From free sports clinics to team trips, our sport-specific programs ensure that every athlete receives the development, resources, and opportunities they need to succeed.

Spring Programming

At Fields & Futures, our programming objective is simple – put more kids on more teams.

Whether it’s one of the sports we support directly through programming or another activity offered through OKCPS Athletics and our community partners, we believe every child deserves the chance to find a sport and team they love.

This spring, our sport-specific programs will support coaches and athletes participating in track & field, golf, soccer, and cheer through OKCPS, the YMCA, and OKC PAL.

Fields & Futures Executive Director David Crynes also serves as the director of the Simon Greiner Track & Field Program, a position he has held since 2020. The Simon Greiner Program enthusiastically promotes the sports of cross-country and track & field in OKC’s urban core by creating new and expanded opportunities to participate and excel in XC/TF. Under his guidance, the Simon Greiner Program has been pivotal in fostering the growth of cross-country and track & field programs within OKCPS. Since 2021, participation has grown by over 400%.

Fields & Futures Golf Program

The Fields & Futures Golf Program, also led by David Crynes, is the newest addition to the Fields & Futures program lineup. This program was created to challenge the mindset that golf is a sport reserved for suburban schools. By introducing golf at younger ages, providing essential equipment, and eliminating barriers to participation, we’re helping students see that golf offers lifelong benefits and opens the door to untapped scholarship and college opportunities.

Fields & Futures Cheer Program

Fields & Futures is focused on growing the sport of cheer in OKCPS by providing student-athletes with opportunities to join a squad, learn and develop their skills, elevate their level of competition, and, ultimately, open doors to college scholarships. Under the leadership of Director of Cheer Mandi Dotson, the program is building on a record-breaking 2024, which featured an expanded three-day cheer camp that more than doubled attendance and the district’s first-ever cheer combine, where all 40 OKCPS attendees received at least one scholarship offer.

Fields & Futures Soccer Program

The world’s most popular sport is also the highest-demand sport in Oklahoma City Public Schools. But even though participation numbers are strong, there’s always room to enhance resources and opportunities. Under the leadership of former professional goalkeeper Cody Laurendi, the Fields & Futures Soccer Program is dedicated to increasing youth participation and providing urban core athletes of all ages with access to high-level coaching and clinics. Leveraging his extensive experience and industry connections, Cody is committed to creating scouting and recruitment opportunities that open doors for student-athletes to compete at the collegiate and professional levels.

Cheering On ALL Sports

As spring sports get underway, we’re here to cheer on every student-athlete participating in OKCPS school sports and youth leagues. No matter which sport they choose, we just look forward to seeing more kids on more teams this spring!

Keeping Girls in the Game: Supporting Female Student-Athletes Matters More Than Ever

Every spring, OKCPS sports fields and tracks buzz with the energy and promise of a new season. Yet behind this excitement lies a troubling trend: sports participation among female students drops by 8% as they transition to high school, while boys' participation jumps 35%. Find out why keeping girls in the game when they're at their most vulnerable is one of our biggest priorities and what we're doing to put more girls on more teams.
