Why We Care is a message of hope and encouragement, personally connecting one generation of OKC leaders to the next.
Sports give young people something to believe in, belong to, and build on for the rest of their lives. But, sadly, thousands of Oklahoma City children have grown up without access to team sports.
With community leaders across Oklahoma City joining the mission to put more kids on teams, Why We Care delivers a collective message of hope and encouragement to the kids and communities served by Oklahoma City Public Schools: “We believe in you. We’re cheering for you. We care about you.”
In this inspiring 7-minute film, Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt, sports radio personality Sam Mayes, community activists Duce & Ayana Talley, and Hispanic businesswoman Brenda Hernandez offer messages of love and support to four young OKCPS student-athletes, letting them know an entire city is behind them and cheering them on, in school and in life.
In the weeks to follow, we will release additional story videos and share personal “Why We Care” messages from these community leaders and other Fields & Futures friends and supporters.
Why We Care kicks off an effort to raise $3,000,000, to complete funding of a $10,000,000 field maintenance fund, ensuring every field, court, and track we build is carefully maintained and available for future generations of OKCPS students and families.
Tell Us Why You Care!
Sports give young people something to believe in, belong to, and build on for the rest of their lives! We would love to hear how sports have impacted your life and why you believe in the kids and communities served by Oklahoma City Public Schools.
Why You Care
I care because people that care for each other enjoy what they are doing the most.
I care because that’s what my coaches did for me and I want to pass that amazing feeling on to my athletes!
I care because sports gave me an outlet and a safe place away from home where things weren’t always safe. My coaches changed my life forever, which is why I am now an educator and coach myself.
