Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) has long been home to some of the state’s most talented athletes and coaches. But as we reflect on the remarkable athletic accomplishments from the 2024–2025 school year, one thing becomes clear – talent alone isn’t enough; it takes opportunity. For the students of OKCPS, these opportunities are made possible through the continued support of our incredible community of donors and partners.
Thanks to that support, OKCPS student-athletes aren’t just competing; they’re thriving. They’re winning state titles, earning college scholarships, and proudly representing their schools and city on the biggest stages in Oklahoma. They’re proving, once again, that when the playing field is leveled, OKCPS kids rise to meet – and exceed – lofty expectations.
2024–2025: A Year of Champions

From the track to the mat and every field and court in between, the 2024–25 school year set a standard of excellence across OKCPS Athletics.
Let’s start with the Douglass Trojettes Track & Field Team, who turned in another dominant performance by winning four State Championships, including a historic “Triple Crown” by senior Brianna Jones in the 100m, 200m, and 400m races. The 4×400 relay team, made up of Brianna, Jazzlin Brown, Justice Woods, and Darriana Gates, also claimed gold for the second consecutive year.
Over on the softball field, Southeast High School’s Lady Spartans etched their names in the All-City Athletic Conference history books by claiming their first-ever Turnpike 44 title. Named after the Turner Turnpike stretch of I-44 connecting OKC and Tulsa, the Turnpike 44 Softball League features exclusively teams from OKCPS and Tulsa Public Schools.
Sports are games of inches and seconds, and three more teams fell just short of winning state titles, instead claiming respectable runners-up finishes.
- Classen SAS Comets finished as Class 5A Boys Cross Country State Runner-Up.
- Douglass Girls Basketball made their first State Championship appearance in 30 years.
- Douglass freshman wrestler Feliciti Doolittle became the first female in OKCPS history to compete for a wrestling title at the State Championships.
Growth Across the Board
Beyond state titles and championship appearances, OKCPS athletes and programs continued to grow, improve, and compete at higher levels across the board.
- 12 teams qualified for State across cross-country, soccer, basketball, cheer, and more.
- 37 track & field State qualifiers across five different schools.
- 8 tennis and 3 golf State qualifiers.
- 4 wrestlers qualify for State competition.
OKCPS coaches were also recognized for their leadership:
- Jermell Perry (Douglass Wrestling) was named OCA Region 8 Wrestling Coach of the Year.
- Latesha Woods (Douglass Girls Basketball) earned her second consecutive OCA Region 8 Coach of the Year award.
And when it came to individual honors, 38 student-athletes earned All-State and All-Star recognition across eight different sports.
Perhaps most importantly, 29 student-athletes representing all eight OKCPS high schools received athletic scholarships, opening the door for their athletic journeys to continue in college.
More Than Medals

While it’s thrilling to see OKCPS student-athletes earn victories, our mission has never been about wins and losses. Our goal is simple: GET MORE KIDS TO GRADUATION.
Empirical evidence tell us that students who play sports have brighter futures. They stay in school, get better grades, and graduate at higher rates. Along the way, they find hope, develop resilience, and stay out of trouble. Putting all of that together, they’re better equipped to lead successful lives. That’s why we’re committed to giving every child in OKCPS a chance to find a sport they love.
Through sport-specific pathways, we help provide:
- Free camps and clinics for athletes
- Coaches clinics to elevate training and mentorship
- Shoes, gear, and equipment
- Opportunities to travel for competition
- Access to youth sports leagues through partners like YMCA and OKCPAL
Thanks to the loyal supporters, donors, city leaders, and community partners who share our vision to put more kids on more teams, we’re able to offer these resources at no cost to OKCPS families.
The Future Is Right Here

As we gear up for another exciting year in OKCPS Athletics, we’re confident that the best is yet to come. Why? Because when kids play sports earlier and stay engaged longer, they’re more likely to find success on and off the field.
For us, “The Future Plays Here” is more than a tagline. It’s a conviction that our future leaders are walking through the halls of OKCPS. All they need is the opportunity. All they need is a team. All they need is someone to believe in their potential.
So here’s to another unforgettable year in OKCPS Athletics. Let’s keep playing. Let’s keep building. Let’s keep believing.
Because THE FUTURE PLAYS HERE.
Clear the Path. Pave the Way.
Help us provide kids in OKC’s urban core with a clear pathway to play sports at no cost, from elementary school to high school graduation.
