When you hear “Star Spencer Bobcats,” chances are you think of state basketball championships and a community that loves its sports!

Even when their facilities were less than great, it never stopped the Bobcats from going for gold – whatever the sport.

As the years took their toll on the Star Spencer football field and other athletic facilities, Ayana and Duce Talley, along with the entire Spencer community, never gave up hope their day would come to see investments made to restore and improve Star Spencer High School facilities.

We’re happy to say that day came in 2017. A phone call from OKCPS to Fields & Futures, asking for help to build a new football field, set off a chain of events that resulted in not just a new football field but also a baseball and softball field, shaded community area, outdoor futsal and basketball courts, and thanks to OKCPS Athletics, a new track, locker room, and new stadium seating.

As graduates of Star Spencer in the early 90s, Ayana and Duce each enjoyed the excitement and adventure team sports offers young students – something they believe every child deserves the opportunity to experience.

Duce was a two-time state-medalist wrestler while Ayana played tennis and was a member of the cheerleading squad. The lessons they learned playing teams sports still stick with them today – things like hard work, positivity, and the willingness to lend a helping hand.

Today, the Talleys enjoy cheering on their two daughters, Symone and Lauren, both avid softball players.

More than two decades after finishing their Bobcat careers, the Talleys are passionate about giving young OKCPS students the opportunity to receive a quality education and experience the benefit of team sports.

Why We Care quote from Ayana and Duce Talley about the reason they support OKCPS student

Ask the Talleys why they care so much about giving OKCPS kids more opportunities to play sports and they’ll proudly say it’s because OKCPS made them who they are and they feel an obligation to support all OKCPS students.

And for that, we say, “Thank you!”

Hope in Action at the 2024 Kansas Relays

Thanks to the Simon Greiner Program, eight talented student-athletes and four coaches from John Marshall's 2023 5A state champion sprint relay teams were given a life-changing opportunity to compete on a national stage at one of the oldest and most prestigious track meets in the country, the 2024 Kansas Relays. The trip was more than just a reward for their accomplishments; it was a vivid demonstration of "Hope in Action."
